Julia is a freelance creative facilitator and director specialising in the design, delivery, and evaluation of participatory theatre and arts projects in diverse settings.
She was a Lecturer in Performance at the University of Salford for 18 years, where she developed and led a range of practice-based modules, including final-year Practice as Research projects. She also served as Course Leader for the HND Physical Theatre and Dance and Media Performance programmes. During this period, she presented papers at several international conferences, published research on the teaching of devised theatre in UK higher education, and served as External Examiner for the BA Theatre & Performance programme at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).
As a practitioner, Julia has created and performed her own solo work and collaborated with companies and artists including Reckless Sleepers, Chameleons in Dream Time, Angle Valentine, and Dogs of Heaven. Her work has toured nationally and internationally, with performances at venues and festivals including the ICA, NRLA, BAC, Steakhouse Live, the Southbank Centre, Kampnagel (Hamburg), the National Theatre (Bucharest), and Théâtre Nanterre (Paris).

Plucked — Dramaturg for a co-created production with Shakerley Youth Drama Project and a Royal Exchange legacy project.
There Are Fairies in the Library — Director/Facilitator for an Arts Council-funded library project.
Our Show — Director of a youth theatre project presented as part of the Local Exchange Festival in the Royal Exchange’s Den, Fred Longworth High School.
